Jan 4, 2009 – Jeffrey Lewis one-man art gallery exhibit!
7 – 10 PM, Sunday Jan 4 at StudioMiko in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

(2 blocks from Nassau G and pretty close to Bedford Ave L)
Featuring Jeffrey Lewis original comic book art pages from Fuff, sound recordings from the “Stories My Dad Tells” series, and some never-before-seen work such as Jeff’s 10-page comic book biography of Tuli Kupferberg (soon to be published in The Beats – A Graphic Novel Anthology). Beers and chips will be available, feel free to bring your own too!
Sat Jan 24 – Brandeis University, MA – Jeffrey Lewis plays solo at the “Chum’s” space – with PONYTAIL – 415 South St, Waltham, MA, 9 PM, free to Brandeis students.
Tues Feb 3 – Bushwick Book Club at Goodbye Blue Monday, 1087 Broadway in Brooklyn – Jeffrey & others perform new songs written about Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”.
Fri Feb 6 – Brooklyn – Southpaw (5th Ave between St. John’s and Sterling, in Park Slope)- Jeffrey Lewis plays solo at benefit show for B.E.A. Rock Camp, $10, 18+, show starts at 8:30. Jeffrey plays at 10:30, also appearing are Honne Wells, The Havens, Analogue Transit, and Final Outlaw. All proceeds go to BEA Rock Camp to finance scholarships for any and all students who may not be able to afford the tuition. Donations will be accepted. Brooklyn Emerging Artists ROCK CAMP is a week-long camp dedicated to empowering youth through musical collaboration. B.E.A.R.C. will be offered during the Summer of 2009 to boys and girls ages 8-15. Camp will be held in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and kids from all over the NYC area and beyond are welcome. Campers do not need any previous musical experience. At 1 pm Jeffrey Lewis plays 4 or 5 solo songs at this kid-friendly family show, hosted by Seth Herzog and Craig Baldo. Drink Up Buttercup will perform as well. Wed March 4 – Portland, OR – The Artistery – Jeffrey Lewis gives a lecture on the comic book Watchmen, followed by a performance, with support from Jack Lewis and the Woodgrain! Co-sponsored by Floating World. All ages!
Thurs March 19 –NYC – Jeffrey Lewis does his lecture on the comic book Watchmen at Jim Hanley’s Universe, 4 W 33rd St, 6 pm, FREE!- PRESS RELEASE: In conjunction with the long-awaited arrival of the Watchmen feature film, Jim Hanley’s Universe welcomes back alt-folk legend, comic book maven and Rough Trade recording artist Jeffrey Lewis with a very special lecture on the virtues of Watchmen the comic book. Alan Moore’s masterpiece of 1980s paranoia and deconstructed superheros is upheld by many as the world’s greatest graphic novel and Jeff will engage these claims in his own inimitable fashion, using his own senior college thesis written in 1997 as a starting point. The lecture will feature plenty of slides, but Professor Lewis sternly insists that all attendees must have done their homework and read Watchmen at least once in their lives before showing up to class.

Jeffrey, Jack and Dave are playing a full band show, with the great Shilpa Ray herself (whom they just toured with out west), and comic book artist/indie-rocker David Heatley. David Heatley is the creator of many great comic books including the highly recommended collection “My Brain is Hanging Upside Down” and he’s also a songwriter/performer, formerly in the Shimmy-Disc band Velvet Cactus Society (whom Jeff used to listen to in college).
Glasslands is not far from the Bedford Avenue L train, at 289 Kent Ave between South 1st and South 2nd Street, right near the river.
